Technical Author / Document Writer

Mon to Fri – * Hours negotiable

Hybrid / one day per week in the office

Technical Author required for a leading supplier of support services for defence and aerospace companies in the UK and overseas that offers a great work life balance.

Working hours: 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday, with a midday finish on Fridays. Hybrid with one day per week on average in the office.

Established in 1991, this highly respected family run business has since grown from a traditional Technical Publications provider to become one of the UK’s leading providers of Product Support Services.

Due to the company’s continued success and growth, they are looking for additional Technical Authors to produce technical documentation and keep the technical documents up to date with their customers.

We are looking for someone with the ability to interpret technical information, including drawings, and present it as useful and informative technical publications.

The Technical Author will be responsible for managing small projects and reports to the Project Managers / Senior Technical Authors when working for them.

What will you be doing day to day:

•Production of technical documentation

•On small projects to act as Project Manager, liaising with customers

•Carry out research to obtain source information for use in technical documentation

•Carrying out independent quality checks on other authors’ work in accordance with the procedures in the quality manual

•To travel and work at customer’s sites as required (this may include overseas travel)

Who we are looking for:

You will ideally be doing the role already or possess the necessary qualities to be trained in the role.

•An excellent command of the English language

•Experience and/or technical qualifications appropriate to the types of projects in which they will be involved

•The ability to gather information first hand, interpret technical information, including design drawings, and applicable Standards and present it as useful and informative technical publications

•To be proactive in all aspects of the role with a desire to understand and follow the procedures and processes detailed in the Quality Manual

•Practical working knowledge of the MS Suite of Office products and other software packages that are used in the production of technical documentation
